A bunion or Hallux Valgus is a progressive misalignment of the big toe. It is commonly described as a bump on the joint of the big toe which can become swollen, or tender. In severe cases the first toe may overlap the second. While inappropriate shoes may cause a bunion, it is more likely to be caused by faulty foot biomechanics.

Symptoms may include:

  • pain and soreness
  • skin may frequently peel
  • inflammation or redness
  • a burning sensation
  • possible numbness
