Prescription custom foot orthoses are considered after assessment and may help manage certain mechanical foot issues. They help prevent and manage conditions such as excessive pronation (rolling in) or supination (rolling out) and improve standing, walking, and running efficiency.
Who Needs Custom Orthotics?
Orthotics play a crucial role in long-term foot health management, including but not limited to the following conditions:
Diabetic foot complications (wound prevention, pressure relief)
Flat feet or high arches (support & stability)
Plantar fasciitis, bunions, corns, and calluses (pain relief & pressure distribution)
Sports injuries & overuse conditions (shock absorption & injury prevention)
Custom vs. Over-the-Counter: What’s the Difference?
Many retail inserts offer minimal arch support, but custom-made orthotics are designed specifically for your unique foot structure. This distinction is key, as private insurance only covers custom-made orthotics prescribed and dispensed by a few regulated healthcare providers, including Chiropractors.
Good to know: Unlike other providers, Chiropodists do not require a referral from your family doctor for insurance coverage!
